Massive thanks to our community partners at Apple for inviting me to the business partners preview held Sunday, September 21, at the brand new Apple Store in downtown Detroit at 1430 Woodward Avenue. What a space, from the layout to the people and the energy, it’s really something else.

The event wasn’t open to the public, it was a gathering for business partners, local leaders, collaborators, and folks who work with Apple in one capacity or another. It took place in the evening, giving us a chance to walk the store before general foot traffic. The lighting, displays, and open floor plan feel polished and intentional, every corner seems designed for both utility and inspiration. The new space is more than a store. It felt like a hub: A place to interface with Apple’s “Business Expert” staff, try out new tech up close, get hands-on with support, see demonstrations, and connect with others from Detroit’s business community. As part of Apple’s broader investments in the city (Academy programs, etc.), this store clearly wants to be more than retail, a site of collaboration and innovation. There was talk of resources and programs available to businesses, and how Apple intends to deepen its presence and support in Detroit.
The new store officially opened to the public on Friday, September 19 at 5 PM. On Sunday, September 21, hours for the store were 10 AM to 7 PM. The storefront is in a key downtown location, on Woodward, near the Shinola Hotel, a visible and central spot.
A note:
To the girl at the door, who thought mockery behind the glass was a fun pastime while we waited, yes, I saw you. And yes, I know where you work.
Never mind who you thought I was (or wasn’t).
We’ll cross paths again.
