May We Be Well

It’s the first day of Mental Health Awareness Month — and before the hashtags, webinars, and green ribbons take over your feed, I want to say something plain and true:

You are not alone.
You were never alone.
Even when it felt like no one saw you crying in the bathroom stall, zoning out at work, or fighting invisible battles just to get out of bed. You are here — and that matters.

Mental health is not a buzzword.
It’s not a cute caption.
It’s not something reserved for celebrities or “crisis mode.”
Mental health is daily. It’s personal. It’s real.
It’s the difference between surviving and actually living.

And let’s be clear — for those of us raised to “pray it away,” “keep it in the family,” or “toughen up”? This month hits different.

Because healing takes unlearning just as much as it takes action.
It’s setting boundaries without guilt.
It’s saying “I’m not okay” without shame.
It’s getting help — therapy, meds, community, rest — and realizing that taking care of yourself is not selfish. It’s revolutionary.

So here’s what I’m choosing this month:

  • To speak softer to myself.
  • To listen when my body whispers before it has to scream.
  • To show up for others and myself.
  • To find peace — even if I have to create it from scratch.

May is about awareness. But let it also be about permission.

Permission to cry.
Permission to pause.
Permission to feel without apology.

If no one has told you yet this month:
Your story is still unfolding. Your presence is still powerful. Your life still matters.

Let’s check in with each other this month — for real.

Because we don’t just need awareness.
We need each other.
