Become a Contributor

Your perspective. Your creativity. Something worth sharing.

WOODSY brings together stories, creative projects, and experiences that encourage people to think, connect, and live creatively. There’s room for your voice in that work.

Maybe you have a story to tell, an eye for photography, a skill to share, or an idea you’d like to explore with others. You don’t need to arrive with a polished portfolio or a finished proposal. Start by telling us what interests you.

What Would You Like to Contribute?

Stories, Essays, and Perspectives

Have something to say about everyday life, culture, community, creativity, or an experience that changed how you see the world?

We’re interested in thoughtful perspectives with a clear voice. Personal reflections, neighborhood stories, interviews, and questions worth exploring can all be starting points.

If you’d like to develop your writing alongside others, explore the WOODSY Journalism Project.

Photography and Visual Storytelling

Sometimes a photograph draws our attention to something words might miss.

Share your interest in documenting places, people, experiences, and the details that make everyday life worth noticing. Tell us about a photo series, a visual idea, or a perspective you’d like to explore.

Skills, Knowledge, and Creative Ideas

What do you know how to do that someone else might love to learn?

You might have a practical skill, a creative process, professional experience, or knowledge passed down through your family or community. We’d love to hear how you might share it through a future WOODSY project or learning experience.

Project Collaboration

Good ideas often grow through conversation.

If you’re interested in contributing design, research, writing, media production, planning, or another skill to a WOODSY project, introduce yourself. Tell us what you enjoy doing and which project connects with your interests.

You Don’t Have to Have It All Figured Out

You might be an experienced creative looking for a new collaboration. You might be returning to something you once loved—or trying something for the first time.

Wherever you’re starting, a short introduction is enough to begin the conversation.

Bring your curiosity, your perspective, and a willingness to create with care.

How to Get Started
  1. Introduce yourself. Tell us a little about you and what drew you to WOODSY.
  2. Share your idea. Describe what you’d like to write, make, teach, or help develop.
  3. Include a sample if you have one. A link, a short excerpt, or a description of previous work is welcome. It isn’t required for an initial inquiry.
  4. Let’s discuss the possibilities. We’ll explore whether there’s a fit and what the next steps could look like.

Please send a brief introduction first rather than a complete unpublished manuscript or a large collection of files.

Creating with Care

We value contributions that are thoughtful, original, and respectful of the people they involve.

Bring your own work, acknowledge your sources, and make sure you have permission to share material created by someone else. When telling personal or community stories, consider consent, privacy, and the effect of making those stories public.

Different perspectives are welcome. So are honest questions, constructive feedback, and the willingness to keep learning.

A Few Things to Know

Do I need professional experience?
No professional credentials are needed to start a conversation. Tell us what you’re interested in and what you hope to contribute.

Does reaching out guarantee publication or participation?
An inquiry begins a conversation. Publication, project roles, and participation depend on the idea, the project’s needs, and an agreement about next steps.

Are contributions paid?
Compensation, expenses, and any volunteer expectations should be discussed and agreed upon before work begins. This page does not advertise a paid opening.

What happens to my work?
Credit, ownership, editing, and permission to publish or reuse work should be agreed upon before anything is shared publicly. An initial inquiry is not permission to publish your work.
